This podcast is an unedited discussion featuring a young Republican, Jonah Heuer, and a young Democrat, Luke Sandstrom, hosted by Quentin Wittrock, the founder of Principle Based Politics. Mr. Heuer is a construction worker and writer. Mr. Sandstrom is an engineer employed in a municipal water department. Neither are politicians; they are voters. And voters are whose thoughts matter most in politics.

So, we discussed what these two young voters and their contemporaries want from their own political parties in the near future. The comments from these two young guests were profound, transparent, and often surprising. Highlights included:

Sandstrom (D): “Young people are struggling in this country. For the first time, people are doing worse at age 30 than their parents were. Our kids are going to have to hold the bag on a lot of things. We are not leaving the next generation better than we found it.”

Heuer (R): “I would like to see Republicans talk about economics where a young man can support a family on his own income.”

Sandstrom (D): “People are sick of Washington; they don’t see how politicians can go to D.C., make $175,000 a year and come out millionaires. They think it is all corrupt.”

Heuer (R): “I want virtuous men in office. I have qualms with Trump in virtue and character…. But, a candidate’s view on Donald Trump is a good indication of whether they want to continue some of the changes he’s brought to our country, or just wind the clock back a few years and call it good.”

Sandstrom (D): “I don’t personally like Trump, but I think there are policies he enacted that are smart, or that are new, or that we’ll have to find out on.”

Heuer (R): “The only change I want to see from my party is an acceleration of the changes Donald Trump’s election in 2016 started.”

Sandstrom (D): “I would love to see younger candidates, more representative of the demographics they represent.”

Another excellent conversation. 2 different sides that both came across that the status quo needs to be changed. A couple points to remember: our younger adults never went thru a war like Vietnam which did divide the country, and also they did not see 9-11 and how are country came together. All they have seen is the far left and the far MAGA right that both pull at those in the middle. I believe they want to live in a country that the American dream still exists, not talked about as something in the past. Great job by both gentleman.
